Pipeline Pigging

The Problem

Sanitary Sewer force mains are constructed to transfer wastewater from a lower to a higher elevation. As buildup occurs inside the force, main pumping system efficiencies decrease, energy use increases, and increased demands are put on the system.

Solution

The Ted Berry Company cleans sanitary sewer force mains with the progressive poly pigging method which propels a “pig” through the pipeline removing material as it travels.

Results

A municipal solid waste landfill recently hired the Ted Berry Company to clean a 6” CI force main approximately 2,000’ in length that had flow restricted to 75GPM. Following one shift of cleaning with pigs, the flows increased to 225 GPM and pump run hours decreased by nearly 70%.
