Our History | Ted Berry Company | Maine

Company History

The Ted Berry Company was founded in 1972 by Ted Berry and remains family owned and operated more than forty years later. Our office sits atop Berry Hill in North Livermore, Maine which was once the home of Berry Hill Orchards and has been the home of the Berry family for many generations.

In 1972 Ted Berry ventured onto his own leaving the family Berry Hill Orchard Company along with his son in law Jim Timberlake and son Jack Berry.  Together Ted, Jim, and Jack would build a business that sold and serviced agricultural and municipal equipment like pumps, fire trucks, orchard spraying equipment, and municipal sewer cleaning equipment.  The three were innovative and extremely creative developing many specialized tools and tricks of the trade that are still used by the company to this day. Jack took a career path that led him to a 30 year career in public fire and safety while Jim worked alongside Ted as his partner through the 1970’s and 1980’s. Many employees played a huge part in the success of the company and helped us grow into the company we are today.

Jim and Linda Timberlake purchased the company from Ted in the 1990’s and grew the company to have a focus on industrial and municipal services. In 1989 our first vacuum truck was purchased and required a tremendous leap of faith by Ted and Jim but a decision that would springboard the company into the future. Ted continued to be active in the company as an advisor and mentor until he died in 2001.

Matt Timberlake (Jim and Linda’s Son, Ted’s Grandson)  joined the company officially in 1994 after growing up in and around the shop and worked his way from general laborer, to shop foreman, to project supervisor, and eventually to the role of General Manager in the early 2000’s. Matt’s vision to provide a diverse service offering to both municipal and industrial clients brought the addition of robotic pipeline inspection equipment and trenchless technologies to the company and help launch the Ted Berry Company from its strong local roots to an industry leader that serves customers of all sizes throughout New England.
